Camp director - Pastor Tom Klusmeyer
    E-mail Pastor Tom at pastortom@campphillip.com.
After 3-1/2 years in congregational ministry, Pastor Tom accepted the call as Camp director and arrived at Camp Phillip in December of 1983 with his wife Nancy and ten-month-old son Nathan.  Their daughter Hannah joined their family in 1989.

Being the first paid staff ever for the camp, Pastor Tom became involved in every detail of the camp, from cutting grass, plunging toilets and building cabins to preaching sermons, leading sing-alongs on his accordion and developing programs.  Nancy, a Registered Nurse, was indispensable as a full-time volunteer, preparing meals, counseling for the girls during summer camp and taking care of the medical needs of campers.  Pastor Tom continues to love the ministry of Camp Phillip because of the powerful impact it has on people's lives.
Development director - Aaron Wakeman
    E-mail Aaron at acwakeman@campphillip.com.
In August 2006, Aaron joined Camp Phillip staff as the Development director.  Prior to arriving at camp, he and his wife Cora spent two years in China teaching English and doing mission work.  Both are graduates of Martin Luther College, and they have two sons William and Andrew.

Aaron is responsible for much of camp's development and marketing work, and he manages the corporation memberships.  He also helps with programs when needed.  Aaron is thrilled to be serving in this position and is proud to be a part of Camp Phillip's unique and important ministry.
Food service director - Christi Payne
    E-mail Christi at christi@campphillip.com.
Christi Payne is a 2004 graduate of Fox Valley Lutheran High School and studied culinary arts at Fox Valley Technical College.  Christi served as our kitchen assistant for the summer of 2007, during which time she displayed a passion for the ministry and a real heart for food service; she joined our year-round staff in 2008.
Maintenance director - Nathan Klusmeyer
    E-mail Nathan at nathan@campphillip.com.
Nathan arrived at camp when he was ten months old; his crib was the salad bar and his bathtub was the kitchen sink as his mother and father prepared meals and ran the programs (Don't worry; the salad bar and kitchen sink have been replaced.).  Nathan grew up helping around camp in the maintenance and food service areas.  He joined the year round staff in April 2007; he's married to Ahnsharee and they have two children Kaliska and Thomas.
Program director - Matthew Bown
    E-mail Matthew at matthew@campphillip.com.
Lifetime camper, junior staffer, SALT staffer from 1999-2002 and now Program director.  You could say that Camp Phillip runs through Matthew's veins.  He joined the Camp Phillip staff in the summer of 2002 and now can be found searching rotten logs discovering parts of God's marvelous creation, leading campfires, writing new songs for camp, lifeguarding and spreading God's love to everyone around him.

Matthew directs the summer camp programs, hires the summer staff, prepares the majority of the camp brochures and also manages the camp store.
Program director - Joel Hansen
    E-mail Joel at joel@campphillip.com.
Joel is our Program director in charge of off-site programs and on-site activities.  Joel and Rachel have worked as Camp Phillip summer staff and volunteers for many years.  Both are tremendously talented and God has truly blessed us by leading them to camp.  Joel and Rachel have two children Lucy and Judah.

Joel is in charge of adventure programs and off-site programs, including Congregational day camps.
Staff assistant - Cora Wakeman
    E-mail Cora at cora@campphillip.com.
Cora joined camp’s staff in August, 2006, with her husband Aaron.  She graduated from Martin Luther College in December, 2003, got married the following May, and then moved to Wuhan, China.  She taught English and Bible studies there.

Here at camp, Cora does just about anything she’s asked!  Her main responsibilities include marketing through e-newsletters and brochures, and assisting in the office.  She previously worked on camp’s SALT staff for two years, and she’s very excited to be back!  Camp has quickly become home for her and her husband, and she’s eager to meet more of the Camp Phillip family.
SALT (Summer Adult Leadership Team)
Our firm belief is that staff are the most important element of a child's experience at camp.  During the summer we hire 25-30 staff college-age or older.  The positions include male and female counselors, congregational day camp staff, kitchen staff, program staff, waterfront staff, adventure coordinator, junior staff director and photographer.
Junior staff
We rely on high school-age volunteers to help throughout the summer in the areas of operations, programs and assistant counseling.  All teens interested in volunteering are expected to attend Junior staff training at the beginning of summer.  Their responsibilities and times of service depend on their age level and Christian maturity.  We have limited this program to 80 total young people with 5-15 people helping out per week.  A male and female junior staff director are in charge of the students.
Volunteers
Camp Phillip could not exist without its volunteers.  Without a full-time Maintenance Director, maintenance projects are left to volunteers or our year-round staff when they have time.  With 9 vehicles (plus lawnmowers, weed trimmers, chain saws, etc.), 18 buildings and 177.5 acres, there’s always something that has to be done.  Our Building/grounds committee would like help in three different areas:  building maintenance, vehicle maintenance and grounds upkeep/landscaping.
Summer camp adult volunteers help in positions such as health care director, food service staff, crafts supervisor, maintenance staff and groundskeeper.

While volunteers are welcome at camp any time, there are certain weekends in the spring and fall that are set aside as work weekends.  Please check the Events calendar for more information.

To volunteer or to receive more information on volunteering, please contact the camp office at 920-787-3202 or e-mail us at office@campphillip.com.
